Release of a Thousand Pains, Wind Cave National Park

This painting is dedicated to the healing powers of our National Parks, which are not only places of beauty, but can also be places of deep spirituality and healing. My friend, Juanette, inspired the title. After suffering the devastating back-to-back losses of her husband and her father, she took a trip to escape her crushing grief. She and our friend Valerie were exploring Wind Cave National Park, where they came across this view. She said "we topped the hill here, and I immediately felt my heart release a thousand pains". As John Muir said, "Let nature's peace flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and cares will drop off like autumn leaves."
I wrote a haiku poem to go with this painting:
Vast land before me
Releasing pain from my heart
Nature's grace brings peace

Original watercolor framed to 16x20. Available at Gay Street Gallery in Washington, VA beginning March 21.
