Turkey Track Pictographs, Bandelier National Monument
Bandelier is a magical place, with remnants of ancient people calling us to wonder at their lives in these ancient dwellings. Evidence suggests that Pueblo people of the southwest bred turkeys as long ago as 200 B.C. Domesticated turkeys were symbolically important, were a food source, and their feathers were used for blankets. This painting was done from photograph I took on a visit to Bandelier. I thought the similar shapes of the cholla branches and the turkey tracks made a very interesting composition. Double matted and framed to 11 x 14 and currently available at Gay Street Gallery in Washington, VA.
