After it Burned, Yellowstone National Park

This is a fire ecology lesson in a painting, inspired by the recovery of this area in Yellowstone National Park after a fire. The meadows were the most luscious rich greens and the wildflowers were just amazing, a dazzling palette of bright colors including the bright pink of the fireweed, one of the first to come back after fire. Did you know that the lodgepole pine, the predominant species in Yellowstone, is fire dependent for reproduction? The cones are covered with a resin and only the intense heat of fire will allow the cones to release their seeds. Double matted and framed to 11x14. SOLD
