Windows Through Time, Dunluce Castle, Ireland

Places of ancient people have always fascinated me. As I visit these places, I stand at the windows looking out at the landscape beyond and try to imagine what it was like to live there so long ago! Dunluce Castle, in Northern Ireland, was built in the 1500's and was the center of power for the Gaelic lordship. It has a very interesting history of power struggles and conflicts, of being abandoned and reoccupied, and gradually fell into ruins before going into State guardianship in 1928.
This was done in two layers, the top layer painted on very heavily textured watercolor paper cut out to reveal the landscape beyond, which was painted on a lighter texture paper. Mounted and framed to 12x14.
